This afternoon I signed on to ActiveRain as I do everyday (I guess I am addicted that way). Of course I am always excited to see what comments I have received and/or the responses to comments I have made from yesterday or previous days. Yes, i am one of those people that actually watch for your comments after I leave them, hence my post called Why Don't You Respond to Comments Made?
Anyway, I had plenty of responses to read but noticed something different. I LOST a subscriber!! Should I panic? Was it something I said? Was it something I didn't say?

Don't get me wrong, I have unsubscribed to blogs before. Mostly I unsubscribe because the person only posts 'listings' and only occasionally posts something interesting for me. Or maybe the person has not updated their post in weeks. But me? I post every other day and try to stick to useful information.
Perhaps its the posts I have written. So, let's look at them:
- How To Obtain More Listings. Who doesn't want more business? This can't be it. I received a lot of good feedback from agents and have seen these tips work.
- Open House Strategies. If you host open houses, these helpful tips are excellent (in my opinion) and have been proven to be successful. But I know not all agents have or believe in Open Houses. During this series, I actually picked up subscribers, so that can't be it.
- Call Conversations. Sure, the topic was about calls, but can be applied to face-to-face conversation as well. Basically, it was about proper call etiquette and tips on closing the sale.
- I took a little break from 'informative' posts and blogged about my Apple Computer (complete with funny pictures of me). During that break, I also blogged about the Dallas Mavericks and a great new burger place in Frisco.
- Then it was back to business as usual. My next series was about Rebuilding or Building your Credit. These were some basic ideas on building your credit if you have never had credit or rebuilding your credit if you had previous delinquencies including Bankruptcy.
So... what was it? Do you think this person just did not find my information good enough to keep reading? They thought I was good at some point.
If you are still reading my blog, I thank you and I assume I have written something you like. So, what feedback do you have for me so that I keep you as a reader?

John - If you try to crack your head to figure it out, you would go nut-so! But I thought I'd leave you my feedback (from me as your realtor). I'd like to see informative posts about the mortgage side of the business. Perhaps, like how agents summarize a market report, could you do a summary (by week or by month) on Mortgage Rates. I like consumers would enjoy that too, dont you?
By the way, I'm one of your fans in your club. I'd never un-subscribe.
In the past, I usually dont un-subscribe because I didn't want to hurt the person's feelings. I just quit reading.
well i just subscribed to your blog to make up for that person. Now...can you tell me how to link the "subscribe to my blog" link at the bottom of your post?
Hi John
I enjoy reading the posts on active rain and find a lot of great information, but I believe the value of a post and information is in the eye of the viewer.
Good luck and success
Lou Ludwig
Worry about the big stuff...like what to0 have for lunch.,.you can only control what you do...onward and upward !
John, Sometimes you need to take a step back and clean out files and start all over again; as to responding to every blog if you haven't gotten anything from it why waste time and write something you may regret later. I generally read your blogs and have found as a new salesperson you have information I try to use.
Thanks, Ray
you wrote a lot to say not much , give us those new tips, we all need a laught at this time, with the world in the state its in, Thanks patt
You win some and you loose some. Don't sweat the small stuff. Just keep writing good blogs and you will get new fresh subscribers.
;)
Perhaps you offended an IBM using Cavliers fan. Or perhaps Mark Cuban was ticked off because you gave out information on the cheap seats. Who knows and why worry?
JOHN That's cute.
A couple of days ago I unsubscribed to a blog because the information was a little too abrasive for me. I guess we all have our reasons. You still have me. :)
I didn't know we were alerted when someone unsubscribes. Good to know.
It can be challenging to keep up with responding to comments on my posts. ~ Evelyn
Alright John I just subscribed to your blog so now you have a net gain of 1.
That and $3.50 will get you a small latte' :^)
Hi Loreena. That is good feedback. I will actually be starting some mortgage posts to talk about the different products that are available still today. Many are no longer available, which you probably know but it certainly needs to be covered.
Winter - Not sure if you hit the button because I don't see you as a subscriber. No worries though. I checked out your blog and it looks like you have a link for people to subscribe to your blog. If you are still needing assistance, shoot me a quick email and I'd be happy to help.
You are right Lou. Someone's writings are not going to be for everyone. Some will like what you read, some will skim through it, and some will no care unless its n eye catching title.
Mystery Man/Woman - You are right. There re much bigger things to worry about. Thanks for the comment.
Ray - What group have you read my articles? Welcome to the business and let me know if you have any questions on anything I have posted. Best of luck!
Thank you Pat. There certainly are bigger things to worry about.
Thanks Benita. I suppose I could just move on. I'll focus on making my posts better.
Erik - LOL Perhaps it was an IMB user. And I don't think there are Cavs fans. Sure, there are Lebron James fans, but the Cavs???
Actually Trunda, It does not tell you that someone has unsubscribed. But since I do not have 200+ subscribers, I noticed that the number went down. Don't get me wrong, its not single digits (34) but I do notice. :-) I have unsubscribed for similar reasons.
Thanks Evelyn. You may not have read the entire post, but I was inquiring about the comments a few posts ago. Thanks for the comment though.
Brett - I had a good chuckle. Can $3.50 even pay for a small latte? Thanks for the response.
John... I don't have time to read the comments..... but in all honesty, I don't care if I lose one. I do notice it from time to time.... but those that sweat over it, in my opinion, arent focused in the right direction. I know of one person, when I unsubscribed, he actually e-mailed me. He has done this with a few members... now, that is scary... it would be differen't if I was able to collect a residual of $100 a month per member... then I would care. lol But I am sure someone has said this, I clean house from time to time. I just don't have enough time or the will and desire anymore to read so many blogs a day. Some people can still handle this after two years, but I am burnt out. Just my .02.
I've honestly never paid much attention to that part of blogging although I am honored that someone may find what I have to say of use.
As some have mentioned here John, don't sweat it - just keep providing content that's valuable to someone (and it doesn't always have to deal with the mortgage industry but you want to position yourself as the expert there I'd assume) and you can't go wrong.
You are 100% right Jeff. You figure it is only one person out of many. Obviously you try to grow your audience because I can be sure someone is following along. My blogs are not all over the Web yet, so I am not being discovered that way. This is still pretty new to me though and I have plenty of time to build that up. Appreciate the 2 cents and the fact that you have cleaned house and I still made the cut.
Karen - I was wondering where you were. :-) I should certainly start blogging about the different mortgage products that are still around and the processes. Thanks for the comment.
Oh c'mon John! Maybe your thinking about it to hard. I lose and gain people all the time. Oh well.
I hear ya Greg. Im not too worried about it, but I did want some ideas on things I could do differently. If I lose someone here on Active Rain, I could certainly lose a homeowner reading my outside blog. Always good to get another point of view. Thanks!
John, I think you are doing a great job and I enjoy reading your posts, so no worries:) I lost a subscriber too and don't know why. It does make you wonder why, doesn't it? I think that is the beauty of AR. There are so many, with different personalities. Someone for everyone! Just keep being yourself and watch your subscriber list grow my friend!
Hi Elizabeth! I know it happens and knew it would happen one day. But since it was the first one, I thought I'd blog about it. :-)
