Texas 211 System Helpful Resource for Hurricane Ike Evacuation and Shelter Information

State's Texas 211 Information System Helpful Resource for Hurricane Ike

Evacuation and Shelter Information

(September 11, 2008) If you have friends or family trying to leave the
Texas Gulf Coast there is a helpful hotline operated by the Stae of Texas.
For information about Hurricane Ike preparations, please access the Texas
211 Information System.  You can dial 211 to get answers about evacuation
and shelter information and to find help locating relief services after
the storm. Operators answer calls 24-hours a day.

Currently the state is directing people who are evacuating to the
Dallas-Fort Worth area, but do not have arrangements for a place to stay,
to a facility in Mesquite.  According to the plan designated by the
Governor's Division of Emergency Management, people who need assistance
after evacuating from Hurricane Ike should go to the following shelter
location first:

Texas Engineering Extension Service Facility
15515 I-20 @ Lumley
Mesquite, TX

Important and timely info John.  I'm wondering what kind of winds we'll be having here ourselves on Saturday.

As soon as I received it, I had to share.  I do not know anyone personally that is relocating.  Im sure we have plenty of members that do though.  Remembering 211 is pretty easy.

John - Good information for our fellow Americans in Texas.  Thanks for sharing.

John, good information.  We are hunkering down and riding it out.  It looks to be an interesting few days.  At this moment they are projecting the eye to go right over us.  I'm hopeful it will move.

I suspect that we are in for a wet and windy weekend, even here in Dallas.  The projections I saw on the news earlier have it going to the east of us, but they still said there is a potential of 2"-6" of rain and winds of up to 55 MPH.  I am taking my patio furniture in off the balcony to make sure that it doesn't get blown around.  Everyone hang on and stay safe!

Marchel - I have heard how crazy it is that the eye is so calm and all around it is crazy.  We have been keeping an eye on it, as I am sure many are as well.  Like you said, it will certainly be an interesting few days.

Steve - Its amazing how big Ike is.  I can not recall seeing a hurricane this size in quite some time (if at all).  But prior to moving to California, we didn't have any concerns for Hurricanes.  We had those earthquakes that would pop up.  Anyway, we are so far North, I didnt originally think we would be effected at all.  I believe I heard the same report as you, which stated we would get quite a bit of rain and wind.

This event was crazy. I had to deal with my parents and head down and force them to leave the Surfside Beach area. We will be heading back tomorrow to see the damage and the aftermath. We are a little nervous.
