Why are 3D Movies a big deal right now? I can't be the only one thats not interested.

I am noticing that more and more movies are coming out as 3D. When it first came out a few years back, it made a little sense because they were based on action films where there were exploding items. But now they are even making movies that don't make any sense to be in 3D. The most recent movie I noticed was GLEE, which is a musical after all. Why would someone be interested in seeing a musical in 3D?

I asked this question on FB and was actually surprised that many people LOVED it. Is this an experience that is just completely lost on me? I'd prefer to see the movie as is, which no additional special effects. Don't get me wrong, I like rollercoaster rides and do not get motion sickness. So, suprises are actually enjoyable to me. But when I am watching a movie, I do not need to feel like something is flying AT me.

Spy Kids is coming out with a new twist on 3D... the 4D ?  So, now you will get the 3D feel PLUS you will get to SMELL what the actor is smelling....  ummm, say what??  That's right! If the movie has Oranges in it, you will be notified to smell a card or something (like a scratch and sniff) that smells like an orange. Then the next scene may have something that smells horrible, like rotten eggs, and you will get to smell that as well.

The 4D is another attempt at including the audience into the movie. Does this movie technique make you want to see the movie even more? Not me. I'll wait for the rental or for the showing without the 3D option. As for the 4D... No Thank You!

John- it's a new revenue stream!  We did see the final Harry Potter movie in 3D just to see what it was like and my husband loved it.  I was just happy to see the movie!

3-D is okay but if you have to follow instructions for 4-D, it seems like a bit distracting to follow directions in a dark theatre. Not sure about that John. Have a fantastic Monday!

Kathy - Let me know if he sees the Harry Potter movie in regular 2D. I'd like to see what he thinks after seeing both versions. Im sure there are some things that gly at you during the movie, but cant imagine it was that much. Maybe Im wrong though.

Wanda - I agree with the 4D also. If you give me a booklet to sniff, how will I read it in the dark? :-)

John, For the first time ever I went to a movie alone.  I wanted to see the last Harry Potter movie and while my husband was in Alaska fishing I went to see it at the IMAX in 3D.  I just have to say it was INCREDIBLE!!  That was my first 3D movie and all I can say is WOW.  Now saying that I think it would have to be the right kind of movie.  I don't even know what Glee is but it sure does not sound like a 3D movie.

Marchel - Perhaps I just have not seen anything worth seeing in 3D lately. :-)  Havent seen the Harry Potter in 3D, but I did hear positive things from someone else for this movie. Of course, someone said good things about Glee also but I just cant imagine that can be true.

Good Evening John, I agree with your opinion.  I can not figure out why 3D is popular again.  I also have not recently watched a 3D movie.

Wow, nice comments above ^. =)

John, my husband loves 3D movies too and buys into it. I can't tell a whole lot of difference and hate having to wear the glasses. We went and saw Tron in 3D a couple of months ago. It cost us $50 to see the movies, popcorn and drink for 2 people. That's a little steep compared to regular movies.
