Baseball Fun Facts

Each month we receive a Newsletter within our company which recaps any company changes / information, i.e. regulation changes, investor guidelines, etc.

Within this newsletter, they shared some fun facts about baseball that I thought I would share.

  • At Boston's Fenway Park, amidst all of the green bleacher seats behind the right field bullpens lies one red seat, signifying the spot where Ted Williams' mammoth 502-foot home run landed on June 9, 1946.
  • Yankee Stadium is known as "The House That Ruth Built" because it was Babe Ruth's popularity and drawing power that made it necessary for additional seats and gave the team enough cash to build them.
  • Nicknamed "The Friendly Confines," Wrigley Field is the second‐oldest major‐league ballpark (1914) behind Boston's Fenway Park.
  • AT&T Park is nestled next to the San Francisco Bay, allowing the opportunity for batters to hit home runs over the right‐ field fence and into the ocean. The body of water just outside the stadium is known as McCovey Cove, named after former Giants hall‐of‐fame first baseman Willie McCovey.
  • After sharing Cinergy Field with the NFL's Bengals for almost 30 years, the new home of the Reds, Great American, opened March 31, 2003, when they lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 10-1.
  • Chase Field in Phoenix opened on March 31, 1998. Architects eliminated the threat of having fans sit for over three hours in Arizona's hot summer sun by designing a retractable roof over the entire stadium. The roof weighs over nine million pounds and takes just over four minutes to open or close.

I'll admit I am not a huge basball fan... an even smaller fan is my daughter. She does not like many sports at all. With that being said, I somehow got her to come with me to a Texas Ranger game last week. We had so much fun, just the two of us. Of course we ate nachos and hotdogs (completely not in my P90X workout program or diet). And we sat WAY at the top. But, the weather was great and it ended up being a pretty competitive game, so we were entertained.

It was a great time to bond with her. Sidney is 13 now, so you never know when I'll be too 'uncool' to hang out with on a Friday night.  I think I'll drag her to a few more games next season. She may never love the sport, but we will still have a great time!

I figure I'll milk it while she will still come with me. :-)

John, maybe if you drag her and tempt her with nachos this might become a regular Dad & daughter thing! I love baseball and enjoyed your boys of summer fun facts.

Cynthia - The nachos and hotdog is what worked this time. Shes not a huge sports fan, but she is sweet when she thinks I'll be by myself. :-)

John ~ I liked the baseball facts.  Some of them I actually knew.  Enjoy your father/daughter outings.  She may not appreciate them now, but she will down the road when she looks back on them.
