Since moving to Texas in June 2004, I've noticed that Texans have a sense of PRIDE. I have bought into this pride as well. It's easy to do!
Recently I looked up What Makes Texas Unique and found some very interesting tidbits of information that I thought I would share.

Texas is the only state to have the flags of 6 different nations fly over it - Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederate States, and the United States.
Texas was an independent nation from 1836 to 1845.
Texas is the only state to enter the United States by treaty instead of territorial annexation.
By treaty, the Texas flag is the only state flag that flies at the same height as the United States flag.
The capitol in Austin opened May 16, 1888. The dome of the building stands sever feet higher than that of the nation's Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The King Ranch in Texas is bigger than the state of Rhode Island.
The first word spoken from the moon on July 20, 1969 was Houston. (the rest of the sentence is not so flattering, but that's not the point of this post)
El Paso is closer to Needles, California than it is to Dallas.
And my FAVORITE fact... On March 27, 1984, the temperature in Brownsville was 106 degrees while Amarillo reported snow and 35 degrees.

Everything is bigger in Texas!

And you forgot to add, if it were not for a handful of Tennesseans, there wouldn't have been a Texas - LOL...
Those were some really cool facts. I saw just about the whole world while I was in the Marine Corps but I have never been to Texas. It's got an incredible history and one of these days I'm going to visit on vacation. Good post.
Speaking of everything's bigger in Texas...With more than 267,000 square miles, Texas is as large as all of New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois combined.
Thanks for the FUN Facts John!
Well John those are some fun facts. I can see why Texans are so proud...
You're missing the 6th flag... you've only named five. Do you know which one you're missing?
Michael - Is that true?
Nate - One day I may travel, of course it will be for pleasure. Im sure you traveled many places and hopefully you were able to see a little of it while there.
Wanda - This is ONE BIG STATE!
Paul - Residents did not have this type of pride in California. I've felt it and love it.
Donna - Thank you for pointing that out. Didnt realize I forgot FRANCE :-)
John - Those are definitely some fun facts about TX, I think the only one I knew was "houston....."
John, They are fun facts. The only one that is in disput is the Texas flag flying at the same level as the US flag. I was called on this and according to Snopes it is not true.
John~ I did not know any of those facts. I now feel educated on Texas.
My older brother lived in Texas for 25 years. It was his adopted home and he spent the last 17 in Austin. Texas is a great place.
Michelle - These were only few fun facts. :-)
Marchel - I did read the slopes article... and I think they are wrong. I don't know why I think its wrong, except for the fact that its a fun fact. I have no real proof except for 'word of mouth'. Thanks for sharing the article.
Dawn - It is my job to educate where needed.
Phil - I've enjoyed it and wish we would have moved here years before. I've been to Austin, but only for a short visit. Actually headed there tomorrow for the day. I'd like to visit Houston too.
John - What a great post!! I am a native Texan and am one of the die hard fans! It's always fun to be reminded why Texas is AWESOME!! ;-)
I'm here laughing John about the first word spoken on the moon, very funny man! Thanks for the lesson today I learned quite a bit Professor Cannata :-)
Jeanna - There are a ton more, but I thought these were the most entertaining. Marchel told me that one of the facts is wrong though. :-( I still believe it.
Cynthia - I knew that was a stretch but.... :-)
On March 27, 1984, the temperature in Brownsville was 106 degrees while Amarillo reported snow and 35 degrees.
Wow! That's extreme.
Just a little Bruce
You're not a native Texan but you got here as fast as you could, as the saying goes. :o)
I certain did Shirley.
