The 'Call To Action!'.. Are you doing this?

I'm in the process of revamping my mortgage website... and when I say 'revamping', I'm actually talking about ideas, designs, etc. but have not made the changes YET. During this process, I've solicited quite a bit of feedback, reviewed examples, and really tried to see how I could create a bigger buzz on my homepage.

What I have found out from many people is that the number one mistake I am making is that I do not have a 'Call To Action'. Apparently its the number 1 mistake made with many websites and mailers. A Call To Action is what you want the reader to do. Whether you are working a website or a direct mailer, it will only be effective if it propels the reader to contact you easily.

The Call To Action can be a combination of things:

  • Simple Statement like 'For More Information, please call me at...'
  • An invitation to attend a free webinar / seminar
  • A link/website where the reader can go for further information

No matter what your call to action is, just make sure its something you can track. If the customers are following through (short of calling you) then you want to be able to know what is working and what is not working. Track the results! You certainly do not want a potential lead to escape unnoticed.

I have seen many Realtor Websites give away information as a way to capture contact data. Perhaps you have seen this before "Real Estate Secrets and Tips", although some charge for this ebook. Or how about "Beginners Guide to Real Estate Investing"?  The reader just has to fill out the quick contact form in order to receive the email with this FANTASTIC information. Now you have a lead to call in the near future.

Is this a technique you use?

How do you feel about it?

What do YOU feel would work best?

I have not used this technique, but it sounds like a clever idea with merit.

There are so many important things to do to help build our business, it's tough to figure out which one needs doing first. Good post...

John, I have this is on my website (it was a template and so are the forms) and I get a few leads from it.  But most people go straight to the Property Search.  Of course, it probably doesn't help that most of my blog links take people to places other than the home page.  I've wondered whether better documents would be more attractive to buyers and sellers, but haven't taken the time to create them.  I'm sure if you put some "Insider Secrets" or "How to Avoid Overpaying for your Mortgage" type documents behind a lead-capture screen, you would get some interest.  Best of all, you know those people are serious.

Sharon - I think its one Im going to give a try. Cant hurt. According to my stats, people find me but they dont always contact me.

Paul - I think as things slow down a little, you have more time to do this stuff. when its too busy, who really things much about it??  Good luck.

Thanks Sasha

Loreena - Im looking for additional feedback also. Keep you posted.

Thanks Kate.  I agree that there is much that can be done. Having someone find you on the internet is the first step (being a part of AR helps with that).

Good Luck Barbara with the ebook. Its always exciting to share ideas and tips.

Thanks Erik. Thats a great idea for a link and capture. I'll have to give that link some thought.

I see I am not the only one that does not have time to invest into their website.  Which is bad.  I need to do it.  I have to do it.  Someone kick me in the rear so I can get a jumpstart. hahaha

Angelia - You are right... we probably all have some adjustments that could be made, but just have not taken the time to do it. I'd like to at least have it done before the middle of September. That will give me enough time to really consider what I want to do and attach. Good luck to you also.

Hi John,

I've been wracking my brain on this call to action thingy.  I developed a "Click here for short sale listings" action button, but sometimes (okay, a lot) forget to use it on my posts....then, when the prospect clicks on the call to action button thingy, I'm not really thrilled about how the info is being collected and/or tracked....I'm seriously diving into this call to action issue this month, because it is driving me crazy!  If you have any tips or tricks to share based upon your research, please post it here! Thanks, and good luck!

Thank you Coleen. I certainly will share some tips and info. I'm still gathering to see really what I want to do. Ideally, I would be done already but have not put forth the focus needed to get it done. Not enough focus anyway. I'll definitely share info though.
