Six Flags over Texas ... Getting an Alcohol License?

For those of you who do not know, there are a few amusement parks called Six Flags which are located in across the country.  This specific park is located in Arlington, TX and is called Six Flags Over Texas.  If you are familiar with the park, you are aware that this is a park meant for Thrill Seekers.  Many of these thrill seekers are between the ages of 13 and 23.

This park includes rides such as; Superman, Mr. Freeze, and Texas Giant.  There are rides for the younger (more vertically challenged) crowd which is located in Looney Tunes USA.  Kids that are 3 1/2 feet and under can enjoy Looney Tune Bumper Cars, Speedy Gonzalez Truckin, and Yosemite Sam's Texas Tea Cups.

Sounds like fun, right?  I think so and have even purchased season passes for the family.  Well, recently Six Flags Over Texas has requested a Liquor License.  This has not pleased the Citizen's of Arlington nor the Mayor.  They are protesting this request because they feel it takes away from the 'family' aspect of the amusement park.  A representative from Six Flags mentioned that they are currently serving alcohol in their San Antonio park (Six Flags Fiesta Texas) and there have not been any issues thus far.  The request is being reviewed and should be decided within the next 60 days,

Personally, I think they should not serve alcohol.  The alcohol itself will not make it more dangerous, but if not monitored closely I can image many bad things could happen.  If they are approved for this license, I would not want my kids there without me.  Would I send my kids to the local bar down the street to hang out and have fun?  No.  So, why would I send them to Six Flags?

What do you think?  Are people over reacting?
